Critical Care (ICU) Nursing Expert Witness

A Critical Care ICU Nurse expert witness testifies about issues in the Intensive Care Unit such as ventilators, central lines, CPR, and critical illness. Critical Care Nurses are nurses who treat patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) settings where patients are acutely ill, sometimes with life-threatening conditions or injuries. Critical Care Nurses undergo specialized training that allows them to care for this population, and oftentimes they receive a CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) specialty certification. While Critical Care Nurses may work in general ICU settings, many hospitals have specialty adult ICUs including Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Neurological Intensive Care Unit, Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU), and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). Critical Care Nurses should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), and undergo further hospital-based training and continuing medical education to manage patients in diverse ICU settings. Critical Care Nurses work alongside a Critical Care interdisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes for their patients. Responsibilities of Critical Care nurses includes routinely assessing patients, administering medications and treatments, and providing critical care and support.
